Carl Kulmus, 68, of Pond St., was charged with theft of services, a misdemeanor, after he told the cabbie to call police over the $12.40 taxi fare.
Blue Star Taxi driver Hisham Elian told police he picked up Kulmus outside his apartment and was told to drive him to a store to buy cigarettes. He went into the first store but came out empty handed and told Elian that the cigarettes were too expensive, according to an arrest report.
Elian took him to a second store, and again Kulmus came out empty handed. Elian then drove Kulmus to Wegmans on First North Street. That’s where Elian asked for the $12 fare and Kulmus told him he wasn’t going to pay, the arrest report states.
When officers arrived, Kulmus emphatically refused to pay and became uncooperative, officers said. He was placed in handcuffs and searched.
That’s when the officers found $5,063.94 in Kulmus’ pockets, the arrest report states. Kulmus declined to tell officers why he had so much money on him.
