Police say the victim pulled his cab over on St. Michel Blvd. near Fleury St. about 1:45 a.m. when another driver stopped alongside it and fired multiple rounds at the taxi.
"The suspects escaped in a red car and were last seen driving north on St. Michel Blvd.," said Constable Jean Pierre Brabant of Montreal police.
Somehow, the cab driver walked away from the hail of bullets without a scratch. Crime scene technicians removed bullets from the vehicle's rear door while some of the projectiles went through one of the car's windows.
Sections of St. Michel Blvd. were shut down while detectives searched the scene for evidence and interviewed potential witnesses.
It is unclear whether the drive-by shooting is connected to the rash of gangland killings that struck Montreal last weekend. Three prominent street gang members were slain in a 48-hour period, including alleged Bo-gars leader Chenier Dupuy.
