“Every night, my children come home and they cry,” Samia Ali Messouad told Global News.
“They think of him every day.”
Ali-Messouad is a mother of three: an 18-year-old daughter, an 11-year-old boy, and a 7-year-old boy who suffers from autism.
In late November, her 45-year-old husband was shot and killed inside his vehicle by a customer in Cote-des-Neiges.
It was a senseless crime that seemed to affect everyone in the taxi industry.
“People were touched by this event,” said Denis Laramee from Diamond Taxi, Bouzid’s employer.
“He was a father that was just working.”
Over the Christmas holidays, a city-wide fundraising effort was held to help the victim’s family.
On Wednesday morning, the widow accepted a cheque close to $80,000.
“It will help a lot. It will help assure a better life for me and my children,” Ali-Messouad said.
Bouzid’s murder was the 28th murder of 2013.
A suspect, 43-year-old Michel Duchaussoy, is facing a count of second-degree murder.
