This year proved incredibly lucrative for Montreal’s cabbies, who reeled in three to four times their usual revenue as the city was out and about ringing in the new year.
Wilson Jean-Paul, Vice President of Montreal’s taxi office, a paramunicipal organization, said most drivers wouldn’t miss the opportunity for the world.
Taxi drivers say that the lucrative evening is important, as their annual revenues have steadily declined for years.
The only event of the year that comes close to reaching a similar level of traffic and income as New Year's is Montreal’s Grand Prix.
There are about 8,500 taxis operating in Montreal.
